Advisory and research practice

Do no harm — and do better.

Where climate meets human rights.

Climate is not only about carbon. It changes people's lives.

Climate and environmental action never lands on a blank slate. A protected area, a reforestation project, a carbon finance mechanism, an adaptation program: each one redraws uses, access, sometimes land rights. It acts on gender, conflict and marginalization. Designed well, these programs protect people and shift power.

That is exactly where we work. We support the organizations that fund, design and implement these programs, so that their effects on people are managed, demonstrable and, wherever possible, transformative.

Three ways in. One competence.

You come in through whichever matches the deadline in front of you.

  1. Two men seated in front of a wooden building marked “Corps de gardes”; one wears a ranger uniform and yellow rubber boots.

    Protecting people

Environmental and social safeguards, Green Climate Fund accreditation, due diligence, grievance and remedy.

  2. A group of women seated on wooden benches in a brick building lit by shafts of sunlight; one of them speaks and gestures.

    Working with local actors

Partnership approaches, direct funding for local and Indigenous organizations, shared accountability.

  3. A workshop participant crouches in front of a wall covered in handwritten flipchart sheets.

Research

Grounded in research

Our advice rests on research, and the practice conducts research of its own.

Marine Gauthier's PhD at the Geneva Graduate Institute, completed at the end of 2026, is on safeguards in global governance: the very rules our clients work with. She publishes research articles on climate governance and participatory approaches, sits on the scientific committee of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and on IUCN's Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy, and teaches environmental geopolitics at UCLy.

The founder

Marine Gauthier

Fifteen years where the environment meets human rights. Former Senior Technical Advisor on climate safeguards at UNDP and safeguards focal point for 22 Green Climate Fund projects. Five years in the field with Indigenous and community organizations in the DRC. PhD from the Geneva Graduate Institute.

For each assignment she puts together the team it needs, and introduces it to you before you sign.

Her background

Both sides of the table

Our experience comes from both sides of the table. We applied UNDP's climate safeguards across a portfolio of more than one hundred and fifty Global Environment Facility and Green Climate Fund projects. We supported, on the ground, the Indigenous and community organizations required to comply with them. We speak both languages, and we translate between them.

The practice has existed since 2016. It first equipped NGOs, coalitions and researchers to weigh on the policies that concerned them. Today it focuses that craft on a single terrain: where climate meets rights.
