Protecting people

You know your projects better than anyone.

What you are looking for is to be able to show that they protect the people they affect — with systems your teams actually use. Standards have risen sharply: climate fund environmental and social safeguards, IFC Performance Standards, development bank requirements. That is good news for anyone who knows how to use them. A well-built framework moves a project forward rather than holding it up, and it stands up to an approval committee as well as to a community.

What we do

We design, review and evaluate safeguard systems that hold up in use: diagnostics and audits, social and environmental screening, environmental and social management frameworks, environmental and social due diligence, partner due diligence, gender action plans, grievance and remedy mechanisms people genuinely use, and team training.

We work with programme teams and compliance teams alike. That is often where we add the most: getting two professions with the same objective to speak to each other.

What we bring

Leadership of climate safeguards at the United Nations Development Programme, with a team of four and a portfolio of more than one hundred and fifty GEF and GCF projects across five continents. The drafting of institutional guidance applied by others. Field oversight missions that go and check, on site, whether the measures announced actually exist.

And years spent on the other side, with Congolese organisations subject to those same requirements. We know what they cost, and we know how to make them workable.
