Working with local actors

You have made commitments, and you take them seriously.

Rebalancing your partnerships if you are an international NGO. Funding local and Indigenous organisations directly if you are a funder or a foundation. The intent is already there. What makes the difference is procedure: due diligence a community organisation can meet, safeguards scaled to them, monitoring that informs without draining, and an honest split of risk and indirect costs. This is engineering work, and it can be done.

What we do

Partnership diagnostics: where power actually sits in the relationship — programme decisions, budget, trade-offs, accountability, visibility. Methodological frameworks for mutual capacity strengthening, built as reciprocity. Design of direct funding mechanisms, from eligibility criteria to operations manual. Proportionate due diligence and safeguards for community-led organisations. Accountability and learning frameworks that respect data sovereignty. And the evaluation of all of it.

What we bring

We have worked at both ends of that chain. We wrote and applied the requirements on the funder side. We supported Indigenous and community-led organisations on the ground in the Democratic Republic of the Congo — including the four hundred civil society organisations brought together in the REDD+/CAFI process.

That is what lets us design procedures both sides sign without reservation.

We are always paid in fees. Never a percentage of the funds mobilised. A direct funding mechanism should be designed to hold, not to grow.
