Advisory and evaluation practice

Do no harm — and do better.

Where climate meets human rights.

Climate changes people's lives.

Climate and environmental action never lands on a blank slate. It meets complex societal dynamics; it acts on gender, conflict and processes of marginalisation, and is acted on by them in return. A protected area, a reforestation project, a carbon finance mechanism, an adaptation programme — each one redraws uses, access, sometimes land rights. Designed well, these programmes protect people and shift power.

That is exactly where we work.

Cap Impact is an advisory and evaluation practice. We work with the organisations that fund, design and implement these programmes so that their effects on people are managed, demonstrable and, wherever possible, transformative.

Founded in 2016, the practice spent a decade equipping NGOs, coalitions and researchers to weigh on the policies that concerned them. Since 2026 we have concentrated that craft on a single terrain: where climate meets rights.

Our experience comes from both sides of the table. We wrote and applied UNDP's climate safeguards across more than one hundred and fifty Global Environment Facility and Green Climate Fund projects. We supported, on the ground, the Indigenous and community-led organisations required to comply with them. We speak both languages, and we translate between them.

Three ways in. One competence.

You come in through whichever matches the deadline in front of you.

Protecting people

Environmental and social safeguards, due diligence, grievance and remedy.

Working with local actors

Partnership approaches, direct funding, shared accountability.

Understanding, and making it known

Evaluation, research, advocacy support, training.

“I strongly recommend Marine Gauthier for her professionalism and her exceptional expertise. Marine has been recognized at the highest levels of the United Nations for her field experience and rigorous analysis of complex social and environmental issues, and we have been fortunate to work with her on a particularly challenging case that she has successfully led. Working in an environment in which each word is weighed for its political accuracy, Marine’s commitment is boundless and is matched only by her attention to detail, her eloquence, and her deep respect for those with whom she works.”
